(January 19, 2021) The Handel and Haydn Society has named Dr. Anthony Trecek-King as a new Resident Conductor of the Handel and Haydn Society Chorus. He has decades of experience as a conductor and educator. Dr. Trecek-King will share chorus responsibilities for the oldest performing arts organization in America with Scott Allen Jarrett. Drs. Trecek-King and Jarrett will assist Artistic Director Harry Christophers in building the H+H Chorus through recruitment, auditions, preparation, and concerts.
Dr. Trecek-King has cultivated an international reputation as a conductor, scholar, and media personality. He is passionate about cultivating artistically excellent ensembles that explore socially relevant issues through emotionally immersive programs, challenging both artists and audiences to feel and think. Dr. Trecek-King has also recently been appointed Associate Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities at The Hartt School, University of Hartford. From 2007-2020, Dr. Trecek-King served as Artistic Director of the Boston Children’s Chorus. Read more…

Opera America Awards First-Ever Idea Opera Residencies
OPERA America has announced the inaugural participants of the IDEA Opera Residencies (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) program, a new initiative that provides New York City-based composers and librettists of color an opportunity to explore opera as an expressive medium. The program is supported by the Katherine S. and Axel G. Rosin Fund of The Scherman Foundation.
The grantees were selected from an applicant pool of 30 by an independent adjudication panel of industry experts consisting of Anne Hiatt, co-founder and general director, Opera on Tap; Anthony Trecek-King, associate professor of choral music and director of choral activities, The Hartt School; Matthew Ozawa, stage director and consultant, and interim director of Lyric Unlimited, Lyric Opera of Chicago; Randall Eng, resident composer and associate arts professor, New York University; and Stephanie Fleischmann, librettist and playwright. Providence Singers: Young Men’s Festival
The 13th annual Young Men’s Choral Festival goes online this year on Saturday, January 30 with three workshops for tenors and basses aged 13 -18. A one-hour choral session will be led by Dr. Anthony Trecek-King, an inspiring conductor, educator, and media personality.
